Hawaii Inspiration

Posted by Jen Albright on

Hawaii. Where to even start. It is so beautiful here. So much inspiration. Water that reminds you of beautiful Turquoise, Blue Apatite, Larimar and even apple green Chrysoprase. Hues of teal, navy and green aqua are all around. ULTRAMARINE. The land is lush and green between long, large lava stretches- I am reminded of Peridot, Jade, and Emerald. Tropical flowers in shades of Vanilla, Purple, Orange and Fuschia bring about thoughts of Moonstone, Citrine, Topaz and Rubies. The sky can be dark gray on one side and baby blue on the other as if Labradorite was playing with Blue Topaz. INSPIRING. Beautiful and barren at the same time.  I know when I get back home I will be very inspired by all the color here. I did not take any "work" with me. I decided before we left that I would use this time to write and record. I would design and create later. I want to draw on the memories to create once we are home. I had started on a few pieces before leaving that were an ode to Diana,Goddess of the Hunt, the Moon and Childbirth. She was also very intune with nature and animals. I am feeling a Pele collection next consisting of Black Tourmaline, Hematite, Carnelian and Red Jasper. Black stones to represent the lava and Orange and Red to represent her fire.

Today we spent the day at the Mauna Lani Beach Club snorkeling and walking along the pathways of the old fish ponds and private residences. We found lava rocks with BEAUTIFUL pockets of gemmy Peridot!  We  collected a few tumbled pieces of coral also that I hope to put into jewelry. The lava rocks with Peridot I want to take home so badly but......I DO NOT want to anger Pele in any way, shape or form. It is said that severe bad luck will follow anyone removing lava rocks from the island. I am down with mythology and superstitions so I will not be taking any home.... I digress....I shall have a glass of wine and mourn the lava rocks ridden with Peridot that I will not be taking home. again...I digress...
